Hello once again! I'm so sorry that I was gone for so long. I had unforseen problems with my gmail account, but I'm happy to report that it's all fixed now, thanks to the assistance of the fabulous people down at Google.
I think the first thing to report is that we had very nice weather during the time that I wasn't posting blogs, though it was chilly out. We had a tiny bit of snow and some hail but lots of sun. The cold temperatures led to a day when we woke up to frozen pipes and no water, but we didn't lose electrical power! The power outage count is going very slowly, isn't it? I think we can thank last year's hurricane for that. I think the motto for that storm came from the lightkeeper here at Cape Beale, who told Spencer and me, "The trees were blowing off Cape Beale!" Not just falling down, but blowing off. That about says it.
I helped Spencer and Megan install a new experiment last week, which was fun. The waves went way down for the first time in months, and we were able to work lower on the shore than usual. It was nice to see and do something different. Spencer and I also went out to a nearby island. It was fun to go for a boat ride, and as I just said, see something different. We went out to scope out a piece of property for sale out there. The island has a handful of houses on it, but no one was home.... We saw some cool houses, and then some abandoned and trashed houses, which were a bit freaky. We didn't see the property though, because after we found a place to park the boat, we walked the wrong way around the island, unfortunately, and ran out of daylight (and the waves were coming up).
This weekend was a fun one, because friends from Vancouver (former Bamfield residents) came out to visit. It was great to visit and have some good dinners and hang out. I really did do nothing but hang out and socialize on Saturday. Over the weekend though, I started knitting again. That's great, and I've learned how to do a couple new things. I'm stalled now though, because I need some needles that I don't have. I can borrow some from an upstairs roommate, but she's making a hat on them right now... I'll get to it though. While I've been knitting I've been listening to Harry Potter 7 on tape (i.e. mp3). Have you heard those? That guy who reads is so great. I think this is the 3rd book I've heard on tape, and I enjoy them very much.
We also saw Juno this weekend. That's an awesome movie, and I encourage everyone to see it.
I think that's all of the exciting things that have happened lately. I haven't fed the kitties again yet, but I wrote the lady in charge last week, so maybe it will be my turn again soon. But I think that's all I have to tell you right now. I've probably forgotten things, but I'll post them later when I remember. I'm happy to be posting again. I hope you all are well.
